Abstract
Climate change has been an important international agenda these days and will be more important in the future. A number of climate groups have been working on to reduce CO2 emissions. A climate group (called GeSI) has identified that information and communications technology (ICT) sectors can play a key role in reducing CO2 emissions by 15% in Smart 2020 report. To reduce CO2 emissions, it is also important to provide energy efficient solutions in wireless communications. As the number of mobile subscribers increases and there are more people using smartphones, the energy consumption in wireless communications increases significantly. In this talk, we discuss how the energy consumption can be reduced in wireless communications.
Speaker's Biography
Jin ho Choi was born in Seoul, Korea. He received B.E. (magna cum laude) degree in electronics engi- neering in 1989 from Sogang University, Seoul, and the M.S.E. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineer- ing from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Daejeon, in 1991 and 1994, respectively. He is now with School of Engineering, Swansea University, United Kingdom, as a Professor (Chair of Wireless). His research interests include wireless communications and array/statistical signal processing. He authored two books published by Cambridge University Press in 2006 and 2010. Prof. Choi received the 1999 Best Paper Award for Signal Processing from EURASIP, 2009 Bes t Paper Award from WPMC (Conference), and is a Senior Member of IEEE. Currently, he is an Associate Editor for IEEE Communication Letters and an Editor of Journal of Communications and Networks (JCN) and had served as an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactionson Vehicular Technology from 2005 to 2007 and ETRI journal.
