Abstract
This lecture will be a chance to learn about ‘convergence,’ specifically through the Hanok(Korean Traditional House) Project taking place in Samcheong-dong, Seoul by Motoelastico. The objective of convergence in this context is to offer a transitional design between traditional architecture and contemporary life, and the process in which this is achieved is by combining two opposite shapes— the deep rooted space perception of the architect and the flexible space perception of a tourist. The four factors of this DUB REMIX (the Hanok Project) which are: preserved knowledge (Tradition) combined with cultural evolution (Change) and journey oriented amateurs (Tourists) combined with terminal oriented professional (Architect), will be explained. He will also be discussing the difficulties in realizing creativity in Asia, for which he believes the reasons originate from structural issues in society and education. At this lecture, Simone Carena— an architect and tourist, also an Italian living in Korea— will be unraveling his stories about ‘convergence’ in his own style.
