Seoul National University's Open Seminar on the Modern Korean Studies – The 1st Seminar of the Second Study Year of the Political Economy Team

May 16, 2025

This is the first session of the second research year, a regular open seminar series by the political economy team of the Contemporary Korean Studies at Seoul National University.
Taking the 21st National Assembly as an example, this seminar will examine the legislative process under the united and divided governments and the continuity of its results from a comparative political perspective. In the institutional context of Korea's strong party discipline and the presidential system, how cooperation between the ruling and opposition parties affects the stability and continuity of legislation is examined. In particular, by comparing the post-variability of bills handled by the ruling party alone with those handled by the opposition party, I would like to examine the practical effects of the form of government and the form of cooperation between political parties on the legislative outcome.
