• Topic: The History of the DMZ: The Korean Armistice System and the Demilitarized Zone

The Korean DMZ (Demilitarized Zone), considered one of the most fortified areas in the world, serves as a physical, geographical, and psychological space of the armistice system. To foster changes in the armistice system, it is essential to address transformations in its key components, including the Armistice Agreement, the United Nations Command, and the DMZ itself. This lecture seeks to explore the potential for changes in the DMZ by delving into its history. Using materials from the Military Armistice Commission (MAC) and other multinational sources, we will examine the conception and realization of the "Korean DMZ" and reflect on the feasibility of transforming it into a "peace zone."
