Asian Association of Agricultural Colleges and Universities
HIT: 9809
Good morning, distinguished delegates of the Asian Association of
Agricultural Colleges and Universities (AAACU) members, Dr. Hak Lae Lee, the
President of the AAACU, Dr. Don Koo Lee, the Minister of Korea Forest
Service, and ladies and gentlemen.
It is my great honor and pleasure to have the opportunity to address this important gathering. I would like to express my warmest welcome to all delegates, and congratulate the opening of the 19th AAACU biannual convention.
As you all know, agricultural basis was completely destroyed during the Korean War, but in the last sixty years, Korea has transformed into a great nation, making great progress, with agriculture as the major power house. And I am proud to say that SNU has been the home of the Korean green revolution, and CALS, SNU also played a vital role in this unprecedented achievement of reforestation.
Distinguished guests,
Major challenges face us in the 21th century such as climate change, environment, food security and etc., and I believe these challenges should be met by green ways based on agriculture.
We live in a so-called era of fusion. And this requires us to change. This asks us to move forward; the area of agriculture cannot be an exception. I am proud that SNU, CALS has responded to this challenge most proactively and dynamically during last several decades.
Since its establishment in 1972, the AAACU has promoted the networking of agricultural colleges and universities in Asia and contributed to the improvement of human welfare through agriculture, education, research and extension.
The 19th biennial convention of the AAACU is an excellent opportunity to share ideas and to develop future agendas for responsible agricultural colleges and universities. I hope that this convention will promote mutual understanding and trust.
It is a beautiful time of the year to visit Korea. I hope all of you will get to enjoy the beauty of our autumnal season, and the warm hospitality of the Korean people.
Once again, I would like to extend my best wishes for a great success in this convention, for the future success of the AAACU, for the prosperity of the Asian region and the world, and last but not least, for your future happiness.
Thank you very much for your attention.
