LRET-Funded Research Center Signing Ceremony
HIT: 8552
Mr. Michael Franklin and Special Guests from The Lloyd’s Register
Education Trust, British Ambassador Scott Wightman, Chief Technical Officers
of shipbuilding companies, Distinguished Guests from the Ministry of
Knowledge Economy, Our Faculty Members, and Ladies and Gentlemen,
It is a great pleasure to be here today for the signing of this historical agreement. As you all know, The Lloyd’s Register Educational Trust has already granted one-million pounds to our university for the initiation of the LRET-Funded Research Center at SNU in 2008. Today’s signing affirms the continued and an increased granting of one-and-a-half million pounds of research and educational funding from 2013-2017. For the continuous support of the Lloyd’s Register Education Trust, for your generosity and faith in the future of SNU, I would like to express my deep gratitude on behalf of SNU.
This special occasion, I believe, imparts two significant meanings. First, the continued support of the LRET implies that the quality of academic research at SNU meets the standards of the Lloyd’s Register group, which, needless to say, pursues the highest possible standards in the world. Secondly, this ceremony signals a strong partnership between SNU and the prestigious Lloyd’s Register group, working together to build a new paradigm of research and development in marine engineering. The engineers and researchers trained with the generous funding from the LRET will doubtless become leaders in the development of faster, safer, and more environment-friendly ships and ocean structures in the future. I believe that both the Lloyd’s Register Educational Trust and SNU’s Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering program will prosper further through this partnership. Before I close, I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the support of Korean shipbuilding industry and the Ministry of Knowledge Economy. Your support in alliance with the LRET fund has created a tremendously powerful synergy effect particularly in the research on sloshing. SNU, as now the leaders in this field is being sought after by prestigious research and academic institutions from the US, UK, Japan and France for collaborative research projects. Without the support from the Korean industry and government, this would have been impossible.
Lastly, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Mr. Michael Franklin, Director of the Lloyd’s Register Education Trust, who has whole-heartedly supported this program with his generosity of spirit. Also my special thanks go to all professors, researchers, and staff whose singular devotion to their research has led to the success of the LRET-funded research. I am certain that the LRET-Funded Research Center led by Professor Yong-Hwan Kim will continue to make great contributions to the global community with their brilliant cutting-edge research.
Thank you.
