Welcoming Address
Banquet for Foreign Scholars Participating
in the World Class University Project
Jang-Moo Lee, Ph
President, Seoul National University
Renowned scholars, honored guests, and ladies and gentlemen.
As the president of Seoul National University (SNU), I would like to extend a heartfelt welcome to each and every one of the distinguished academics from around the world gathered here, who will be participating in our World Class University (WCU) project.
It is a great honor and delight indeed for me to be meeting with all of you for the first time. Surely, few places have shone so much with the sheer intellect of the participants as this banquet hall does tonight.
The goal of the WCU project lies in qualitatively elevating the education and research offered here at SNU by inviting foreign scholars with outstanding research capabilities and having them directly participate in education and research.
SNU is making every effort to grow as a world-class research university by inviting renowned scholars in diverse fields from around the globe and producing creative knowledge. Without a doubt, all of you distinguished academics who are here tonight and participating in the WCU project will contribute considerably to the attainment of our goal.
We have invited all of you renowned scholars here tonight to offer you with an opportunity to meet one another and our project team leaders, thus promoting friendship and active academic exchange, and to provide you with the information necessary for the successful completion of the WCU project and everyday life on our campus.
I strongly hope and know that, in the course of the WCU project, you will produce world-class research through active and close exchange of academic information and opinions not only with faculty members here at SNU but also with scholars throughout Korea. It is my hope, too, that you will engage in fruitful and enjoyable dialogue with one another and our project team leaders here tonight.
In addition, if you experience any inconvenience during your stay at SNU, please feel free to contact our project team leaders with inquiries and suggestions. Of course, we will do our utmost to solve problems and to make your stay as pleasant as possible.
Tonight, as a token of appreciation, we have prepared a modest banquet. We hope that you will enjoy the meal and have a rewarding and joyful time during your stay at SNU. Thank you.
